Hubballi: A fresh controversy has emerged around Eshwar Khandre Vantara after Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre raised serious questions about the visits of forest department officials to the privately owned wildlife facility, Vantara.
In an official note addressed to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), the minister has sought detailed information regarding the visits made by forest officials and wildlife veterinarians to the centre. He has asked for a comprehensive report explaining the purpose of these visits, including the duration of their stay at the facility.
The issue has gained attention as the minister questioned whether proper permissions were obtained before such visits were carried out. “Who authorized the forest department personnel to visit Vantara, and what was the exact purpose of these visits?” Khandre asked in his communication, signaling concerns over procedural transparency and accountability within the department.
The minister has directed the PCCF to submit a detailed reply within seven days. He has also demanded clarification on why several senior officials visited the facility and whether their visits were aligned with official duties or required approvals.
In a significant move, Khandre has issued new instructions stating that all future visits by forest officials to Vantara or any other privately managed zoos must receive prior approval from the forest minister. This directive is aimed at tightening oversight and ensuring that official engagements with private wildlife institutions are properly regulated.
Responding to the development, Kumar Pushkar, PCCF (Wildlife), confirmed that the note has been circulated among all concerned units. He assured that the necessary details are being collected and that a comprehensive report will be submitted to the minister within the stipulated timeframe.
The Eshwar Khandre Vantara issue has sparked debate over the relationship between government officials and private wildlife facilities, raising important questions about governance, transparency, and adherence to official protocols in the management of wildlife conservation efforts.
