A shocking case has emerged from the Palitana Jain Balasram, located in the Palitana taluka, where serious allegations of sexual abuse have been made against a hostel caretaker. The accused, identified as Hasmukh Shah, has been booked following a complaint filed by the father of a minor student studying at the institution.
According to the complaint, the caretaker allegedly subjected the minor to abuse over a period of nearly three years. The victim’s father stated that his child was repeatedly threatened and intimidated, which kept him silent for a long time. The truth came to light only after the minor finally confided in his family, prompting them to take legal action.
The father has further alleged that his son may not be the only victim. He believes that similar incidents could have occurred with other children staying at the Palitana Jain Balasram, but those cases may have been suppressed due to fear or pressure, preventing other victims from speaking out.
The case also raised concerns about the initial response of local authorities. The family claimed that when they first approached the Palitana Town Police Station, their complaint was not immediately registered. It was only after escalating the matter to higher authorities, including the Superintendent of Police (SP), that an official FIR was finally lodged.
Police have now initiated a formal investigation and assured that strict legal action will be taken based on the findings. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked widespread outrage within the Jain community, with many demanding swift justice and stronger safeguards for children in residential institutions like the Palitana Jain Balasram.
