Vartej Police Arrest Man With Ganja: Bhavnagar Youth Held During Highway Vehicle Check, Supplier Booked Under NDPS Act

Police Seize 212 Grams of Suspected Ganja Along With Motorcycle and Mobile Phone

Vartej Police Arrest Man With Ganja after intercepting a motorcycle rider during a routine vehicle inspection on the Bhavnagar–Rajkot highway. The operation led to the recovery of 212 grams of suspected cannabis, prompting police to register a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the arrested individual and the alleged supplier.

According to police officials, the action was part of an ongoing drive to curb illegal narcotics trafficking and strengthen surveillance on major roads in the district. Authorities said the seizure reflects continued efforts to identify and dismantle local drug supply networks.

Routine Highway Check Leads to Arrest

The incident took place during a regular vehicle checking operation conducted by the Vartej Police near the police station on the Bhavnagar–Rajkot highway. Officers on duty noticed a motorcycle rider whose movements appeared suspicious and decided to stop him for verification.

The rider was identified as Vicky alias “Joker” Sanjaybhai Makwana, a 21-year-old resident of Indiranagar, Vankar Vas in Bhavnagar, with his native place listed as Mahakali Chowk in Sidsar.

During the inspection, police searched both the rider and his belongings after observing suspicious behaviour. A bag in his possession allegedly contained 212 grams of suspected ganja, leading to his immediate detention.

Ganja Worth ₹10,600 Recovered

Police said the seized cannabis has an estimated market value of around ₹10,600. In addition to the suspected narcotic substance, officers also confiscated the motorcycle used by the accused and an Android mobile phone believed to be relevant to the investigation.

The total value of the seized property has been estimated at ₹40,600, including:

  • Suspected ganja (212 grams): ₹10,600
  • Motorcycle: ₹20,000
  • Android mobile phone: ₹10,000

The seized items have been taken into police custody as evidence while the investigation continues.

Interrogation Reveals Alleged Supplier

During questioning, the arrested accused allegedly disclosed the source of the seized cannabis. According to police, he claimed that the contraband had been obtained from Dilip Solanki, a resident of the Ramnagar area in Sihor.

Based on this statement and the preliminary investigation, Vartej Police registered a case against both the arrested man and the alleged supplier under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police officials said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the alleged supplier, who was not in custody at the time of the latest update.

Investigation Continues Under NDPS Act

The NDPS Act is India’s primary legislation dealing with offences involving narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The law provides stringent penalties for the possession, transportation, sale, and distribution of prohibited drugs, depending on the type and quantity of the substance involved.

Investigators are now examining whether the recovered cannabis was intended for personal consumption or illegal distribution. Authorities are also analysing the seized mobile phone and other available evidence to identify possible links to a wider narcotics network.

Officials indicated that further arrests cannot be ruled out if the investigation uncovers additional individuals connected to the alleged supply chain.
