Land Access Dispute Turns Fatal in Bhavnagar’s Parwala Village

The clash, involving two branches of the same family, left one man dead and four others injured, including two women.
Police have now added a murder charge to the case following the death of a critically injured man who had been receiving treatment at a private hospital. Authorities have registered cross-complaints from both sides and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
Dispute Reportedly Began Over Farm Road Access
According to police, the violence stemmed from a disagreement over opening a pathway leading to agricultural fields in Parwala village of Umrala taluka. What began as a dispute over land access quickly escalated into a physical confrontation involving multiple family members.
Officials said the incident occurred several days before the victim succumbed to his injuries. With his death, the legal case has become significantly more serious, prompting investigators to invoke murder-related provisions.
First Complaint Alleges Attack With Pipes and Spades
In the first complaint filed at Umrala Police Station on July 12, Bhavanaben Karshanbhai Dangar stated that her father and brother, Jayesh Karshanbhai Dangar, were working on their farmland on July 11 when several relatives allegedly arrived and demanded that the pathway to the farm be cleared.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly threatened the family, warning them of serious consequences if the route was not opened. As tensions rose, an argument reportedly turned violent.
Bhavanaben claimed that when she and her sister Varshaben attempted to intervene, the accused allegedly assaulted the family using pipes and spades. Jayesh Dangar suffered severe head injuries during the attack and was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Jayesh later died from his injuries. Following his death, police added a murder charge to the case and expanded their investigation.
Cross-Complaint Alleges Assault With Sharp Weapons
The opposing side has also filed a complaint presenting a different version of events.
Mehul Karshanbhai Dangar, aged 30, told police that on July 10 he and his father were travelling to their farm on a motorcycle when they were allegedly stopped by members of the other family.
According to Mehul’s complaint, after questioning why the road had been blocked, an argument broke out. He alleged that the other side attacked them with sharp agricultural tools, including a sickle and a dhariya (a traditional bladed farming implement).
Mehul claimed he sustained serious head injuries during the assault, while his father was also injured in the attack. Both are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bhavnagar.
Police Investigating Both Versions of Events
With complaints lodged by both parties, Umrala Police have registered cross-cases and are investigating the circumstances that led to the violence. Officers are collecting evidence, recording witness statements, and working to recover the weapons allegedly used during the clash.
Police have also begun efforts to locate and detain those named in the complaints. Investigators will examine medical reports, forensic evidence, and eyewitness accounts to determine the sequence of events and establish individual responsibility.
Officials have not yet released details about any arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
