Bhavnagar Millet Festival 2026 Begins: Grand Two-Day Event Promotes Healthy Eating and Natural Farming

Bhavnagar, Gujarat: The much-anticipated Bhavnagar Millet Festival 2026 kicked off with great enthusiasm at Jawahar Maidan, marking the beginning of a vibrant two-day celebration dedicated to nutrition, sustainability, and agricultural awareness. The event, held under the leadership of the city commissioner and in the inspiring presence of former mayor Bharat Bard, aims to promote millet consumption and encourage natural farming practices among citizens and farmers alike.

Organized jointly by the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation and the District Agriculture Department, the Bhavnagar Millet Festival has been designed as a large-scale public awareness initiative. Its primary goal is to highlight the importance of “Shree Anna”-nutrient-rich millets-and to inspire a shift toward healthier dietary habits in an age increasingly dominated by processed and junk food.

A Platform for Nutrition and Innovation

The festival features an impressive setup of 36 exhibition-cum-sale stalls along with 15 live food courts, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore a wide variety of millet-based dishes and natural agricultural products. From traditional recipes to innovative millet cuisine, the event showcases how these ancient grains can be seamlessly integrated into modern diets.

Visitors can also interact directly with farmers and producers, gaining firsthand knowledge about organic produce and sustainable farming methods. The live demonstrations and food tastings have emerged as major attractions, drawing large crowds eager to experience the taste and health benefits of millets.

Call to Youth: Shift Away from Junk Food

Addressing the gathering during the Opening ceremony, former mayor Bharat Bard strongly urged the younger generation to move away from unhealthy junk food and adopt a millet-based diet. He emphasized that grains such as jowar, bajra, and ragi are rich in essential nutrients and offer significant health benefits.

“Regular consumption of millets can help prevent several lifestyle diseases that are increasingly affecting people at a young age,” he noted. His message resonated with attendees, particularly students and young professionals, who are becoming more conscious about their health choices.

Government Push for Millet Movement

Speaking at the event, former Standing Committee Chairman Raju Rabadiya highlighted the efforts of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in promoting the agricultural sector. He stated that initiatives like the Bhavnagar Millet Festival are playing a crucial role in transforming millet consumption into a mass movement.

He further added that incorporating millet-based foods into daily diets can significantly reduce the risk of early-age illnesses, making them an essential component of a balanced lifestyle.

Awareness and Support for Farmers

Beyond food and nutrition, the festival also serves as an educational platform for farmers. Throughout the two-day event, participants are being provided with detailed insights into the health benefits of millets, along with guidance on natural farming techniques and modern agricultural innovations.

Experts and agricultural officers are conducting interactive sessions, helping farmers understand sustainable practices, improve crop yield, and explore new market opportunities. The initiative aims to strengthen the agricultural ecosystem while ensuring better income prospects for local farmers.
