Amreli, Gujarat: In a significant push toward education and water conservation, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited Amreli district on Wednesday and inaugurated several development projects. The visit focused on strengthening educational infrastructure, improving water conservation, and accelerating rural development across the region.
One of the highlights of the visit was the inauguration of a modern 1100-bed girls’ hostel at Devka Vidyapeeth, a prominent educational institution in Rajula. The Chief Minister also launched a large-scale water conservation campaign and inaugurated multiple infrastructure projects aimed at boosting the district’s long-term development.
The initiatives are expected to benefit thousands of students, farmers, and residents across Amreli district.
Major Boost for Education at Devka Vidyapeeth
During his visit, the Chief Minister inaugurated key facilities at Devka Vidyapeeth, an institution managed by renowned spiritual storyteller Ramesh Oza, widely known as Bhaishri.
The newly inaugurated infrastructure aims to improve living and academic conditions for female students, particularly those coming from rural areas.
Key Facilities Inaugurated
- Modern Girls’ Hostel:
A newly constructed hostel with a capacity of 1,100 beds designed to provide safe and comfortable accommodation for female students pursuing higher education. - Advanced Dining Hall:
A modern dining facility with seating capacity for 580 students, equipped to provide hygienic and nutritious meals.
These facilities are expected to significantly improve residential and academic support for students studying at Devka Vidyapeeth. The hostel will especially benefit girls from rural and semi-urban regions who often face challenges in accessing quality accommodation while pursuing higher education.
Speaking during the event, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized the importance of empowering girls through education and ensuring they have access to modern infrastructure that supports their academic growth.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Energy Minister Kaushik Vekariya, MLA Hira Solanki, along with community leaders and education supporters.
Water Conservation Drive Launched in Sanosara
Apart from educational initiatives, the Chief Minister also launched a major water conservation campaign in Sanosara village of Amreli district.
The program aims to deepen and restore lakes and check dams across the district to enhance water storage capacity and improve groundwater recharge.
Local residents welcomed the Chief Minister with traditional celebrations, and rural women greeted him with flowers as part of the welcoming ceremony.
Collaborative Initiative
The water conservation drive is being carried out with the joint efforts of several organizations and government departments, including:
- Gujarat Energy and Petrochemicals Department
- Gir Ganga Foundation
- Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation
The initiative focuses on restoring water bodies in rural areas to ensure long-term sustainability for agriculture and drinking water needs.
Scale of the Project
- 65 villages in Amreli taluka will undergo lake and check dam deepening works.
- An additional 20 villages across the district will also benefit from similar projects.
- 85 Hitachi machines will be deployed for excavation and deepening activities.
- On the first day, 35 machines were allocated to different villages.
- Each village will receive approximately 600 hours of machine work to complete the conservation tasks.
Farmers and local residents have welcomed the project, as improved water storage will strengthen irrigation capacity and help reduce water scarcity in the region.

The Chief Minister’s visit also included several other key infrastructure inaugurations across the district.
Statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
In Amreli city, a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj made of Panchdhatu (a five-metal alloy) was inaugurated at Shivaji Chowk in Jesingpara.
The statue has been installed by the Amreli Municipality as a tribute to the legendary Maratha warrior king and his contributions to Indian history.
Pipariya River Deepening Project
Another major announcement was the launch of a river deepening project in Matirala village of Lathi taluka.
Key highlights of the project include:
- River: Pipariya River
- Length of deepening: Approximately 9.6 kilometers
- Estimated cost: Around ₹15.66 crore
- Funding model: 80:20 public participation partnership
- Supporting organization: Dholakia Foundation
The project is expected to increase water storage capacity and improve groundwater levels in nearby agricultural areas.
Political Significance Ahead of Local Elections
The Chief Minister’s extensive development tour comes at a time when local body elections in Gujarat are expected to be announced soon. Elections for municipalities, taluka panchayats, and district panchayats are likely to take place in the near future.
Political observers believe the large number of inaugurations and foundation stone ceremonies in Amreli district could play a crucial role in shaping the political atmosphere ahead of the elections.
Several prominent leaders attended the events, including Member of Parliament Bharat Sutariya, along with five MLAs from the district and other local officials.
