According to officials, five to six armed robbers entered the SBI branch located on Lamba Hanuman Road in Varachha during working hours. Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar confirmed that the accused used a pistol to threaten the bank staff and carried out the robbery with precision.
Investigators believe the gang had conducted prior surveillance of the bank and carefully planned the heist. The criminals reportedly took advantage of an ongoing cash deposit operation involving a CMS (cash management service) vehicle. This allowed them to blend into routine activity and gain access to the bank without raising suspicion.
Once inside, the robbers held the cashier and other employees hostage at gunpoint. They also seized mobile phones from staff members to prevent them from alerting authorities in real time. The entire operation was executed swiftly, leaving employees with little opportunity to react.

He explained that neither he nor the security guard had any indication of the robbery. There were no visible signs such as fleeing suspects or alarm sirens. According to him, the incident unfolded entirely inside the bank, without alerting anyone outside.
This suggests the robbers may have entered and exited through internal access points, keeping their movements concealed from public view.

As soon as the incident came to light, a large police team rushed to the scene. Senior officers, including ACPs, DCPs, and additional commissioners, arrived to oversee the situation. Police stations from Varachha, Puna, Kapodra, and Sarthana coordinated their efforts to secure the area.
