Ahmedabad AUDA Housing Scam has come to light after several people were allegedly cheated out of lakhs of rupees by fraudsters who promised them affordable homes under an AUDA housing scheme. According to a police complaint, the accused collected money from victims by making false promises of securing government housing, processing loans, and completing official formalities. However, an investigation later revealed that no genuine applications had ever been submitted.
The case has now been registered at Kagadapith Police Station, where police have launched a detailed investigation against two accused individuals.
Victims Were Promised Affordable AUDA Homes
Government-backed housing schemes are designed to help economically weaker families own a home at affordable prices. Unfortunately, fraudsters often target people who are unaware of the official application process.
One such victim is Chhaganbhai Chauhan, a resident of the Isanpur area in Ahmedabad. He reportedly came to know through a friend that a man identified as Abhubhai Rabari, who lives in New Mangal Park Society in Ghodasar, could help people obtain AUDA housing.
Believing the offer to be genuine, Chhaganbhai met the accused and discussed the housing scheme.
Loan Promise Used to Gain Victim’s Trust
According to the complaint, Abhubhai Rabari assured Chhaganbhai that a house in the Isanpur area could be arranged after processing a housing loan of ₹6 lakh. As part of the procedure, the accused allegedly collected ₹2.20 lakh from him.
The complainant was later taken to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) office in Danilimda, where he was introduced to another man identified as Mehbub, also known as Babu. The accused claimed that the required paperwork for the housing application was being completed there, making the entire process appear legitimate.
More Money Collected Under Different Excuses
The alleged fraud did not stop there.
Later, Chhaganbhai informed the accused that his son was also interested in purchasing a government house. Mehbub reportedly showed them a property in the Vasna area and demanded another ₹1.60 lakh to arrange the allotment.
The complainant was also taken to the AUDA office in Usmanpura, where he was told that application forms were being processed. Around one and a half months later, the accused claimed that both housing applications had been approved and demanded an additional ₹30,000 as processing charges.
Fake Loan Charges and Floor Upgrade Fees
The accused allegedly continued demanding money under different pretexts.
They collected another ₹16,000, claiming it was necessary for loan approval. Later, they informed the complainant that the allotted flats were located on the fourth floor. If he wanted a first-floor apartment instead, he would have to pay an additional ₹50,000.
Trusting their claims, the complainant handed over the money. However, despite receiving nearly ₹4.80 lakh in total, the accused reportedly never issued any receipts or written acknowledgements for the payments.
Truth Came Out After Official Verification
The fraud was exposed after members of the complainant’s community informed him that several other people had also been approached by the same individuals with similar promises of government housing.
Suspicious of the process, the complainant personally visited the AUDA office in Usmanpura to verify the status of his application. Officials informed him that no housing application or form had ever been submitted in his name.
It became clear that the entire process, including the forms and assurances, was allegedly fabricated to deceive applicants and collect money illegally.
AUDA Housing Scam-Police Register Case Against Two Accused
Following the discovery of the alleged fraud, a formal complaint was lodged at Kagadapith Police Station against Abhubhai Rabari and Mehbub alias Babu.
Police have registered a case against both accused and initiated further investigation into the Ahmedabad AUDA Housing Scam. Preliminary findings indicate that multiple people may have been targeted using the same method, raising concerns that the fraud could involve several victims.
Authorities are now working to identify other affected individuals and determine the full extent of the alleged scam. Citizens have also been advised to verify all government housing schemes directly with official departments before making any payments or sharing personal documents with unauthorized agents.
