Bhavnagar PM E Bus Launch: City Expands Public Transport Network with 25 New Electric Buses

New Fleet Aims to Improve Connectivity Across Urban Areas

Bhavnagar PM E Bus Launch: The Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation has expanded its public transportation network with the launch of 25 additional electric buses under the Bhavnagar PM E Bus Launch initiative. The move is expected to strengthen city transport services, improve access to remote urban neighborhoods, and provide residents with a more affordable and environmentally friendly travel option.

The newly introduced buses were flagged off during a ceremonial event held near the Sheetla Mata Temple in the Kumbharwada area of Bhavnagar. The inauguration was attended by Gujarat Cabinet Minister Jitu Vaghani, Bhavnagar Mayor Ushaben Talreja, Standing Committee Chairman Kishan Mehta, and several civic leaders and officials. Dignitaries formally launched the service and also traveled on the buses to mark the occasion.

Expansion Comes After Initial Rollout of PM E-Bus Service

The latest launch marks the second phase of the city’s electric bus project. Bhavnagar had reintroduced organized city bus services approximately two months ago through the PM E-Bus initiative after public transport remained largely unavailable for several years.

As part of the program, the Gujarat government allocated 100 electric buses to the city. During the first phase, around 50 buses were deployed on various routes. However, the initial rollout faced criticism from some residents who argued that many of the buses were operating on routes serving rural areas rather than addressing transportation needs within the city itself.

The addition of 25 more buses is seen as an effort to strengthen urban connectivity and respond to public demand for improved transportation services in city neighborhoods.

Focus on Better Access to Interior and Underserved Areas

According to civic authorities, the newly launched buses will primarily operate across key urban corridors as well as interior localities that previously had limited access to public transport. This expansion is expected to make daily commuting easier for thousands of residents who rely on affordable transportation for work, education, healthcare, and other essential activities.

Improved connectivity could also help reduce travel time and provide greater convenience for people living in areas that have traditionally been underserved by public transport services.

Urban planners often highlight reliable public transportation as a crucial factor in supporting economic activity and improving quality of life. By extending bus routes to more neighborhoods, the city hopes to create a more accessible and efficient transportation network.

Affordable Fare Structure for Daily Commuters

One of the key attractions of the PM E-Bus service is its affordable fare system, designed to cater to commuters from all income groups.

The fare structure is based on travel distance:

Up to 3 kilometers: ₹5
Up to 5 kilometers: ₹10
Up to 8 kilometers: ₹15
More than 8 kilometers: ₹20

The low-cost pricing is expected to benefit students, workers, senior citizens, and middle-income families who depend on daily travel within the city. Officials believe the service can also help reduce dependence on more expensive transportation options, including private vehicles and auto-rickshaws.

Environmental Benefits Expected from Electric Mobility

Apart from improving transportation, the expansion of electric buses aligns with broader sustainability goals. Unlike conventional diesel-powered buses, electric buses produce no tailpipe emissions, helping reduce air pollution in urban areas.

The adoption of electric public transport can also contribute to lower noise pollution levels, creating a quieter and cleaner city environment. As cities across India increasingly focus on sustainable mobility solutions, Bhavnagar’s investment in electric buses reflects a growing commitment to environmentally responsible urban development.

A Step Toward Modern Urban Transport

The Bhavnagar PM E Bus Launch represents another significant step in the city’s efforts to modernize public transportation infrastructure. With additional buses now entering service and routes being expanded to reach more neighborhoods, residents are expected to benefit from better connectivity, lower travel costs, and improved commuting experiences.

As the network continues to grow, city officials hope the enhanced public transport system will encourage greater use of shared mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and support Bhavnagar’s long-term vision for sustainable urban development.
