Ahmedabad: A disturbing case of deception and sexual exploitation has surfaced in Ahmedabad, where an AMTS bus driver allegedly hid his real identity to trap a widow in a romantic relationship. The accused, identified as Mohsin Pathan, reportedly pretended to be an unmarried man named “Mohit Patel” and used the fake identity to develop a relationship with the woman. According to police, he also created a fake Aadhaar card to support his false identity and gain the victim’s trust. The Odhav police in Ahmedabad have now arrested the accused and launched a deeper investigation into the matter.
How the Relationship Began
The incident came to light after the victim, a widow working at a paying guest (PG) facility in the Navrangpura area of Ahmedabad, filed a complaint with the police. According to her statement, she frequently used AMTS buses for daily travel. During this time, she came into contact with the driver, who introduced himself as Mohit Patel.
The accused, originally a resident of Godhra, was working as a contract-based driver with the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS). While interacting with the woman, he claimed that he was unmarried and expressed romantic interest in her. Over time, the driver gained her confidence and allegedly promised to marry her.
Believing his claims, the woman developed a relationship with him. During this period, the accused reportedly took her to several hotels across Ahmedabad, where he established physical relations with her. Police say he continued to assure her that they would soon get married, reinforcing her trust in him.
Fake Aadhaar Card Used to Hide Identity
Investigators revealed that the accused had prepared a fake Aadhaar card under the name “Mohit Patel.” He allegedly used this fabricated identification while checking into hotels with the victim so that his real identity would remain hidden.
For months, the woman believed that she was in a genuine relationship with an unmarried man. However, suspicions began to arise when she noticed inconsistencies in his behavior and personal details.
Truth Revealed Through Mobile Phone
The situation took a dramatic turn when the woman decided to check the accused’s mobile phone. During this search, she found a phone number saved under the name of his sister. Curious to verify the truth, she contacted the number.
The conversation with the woman on the other end exposed the entire deception. She learned that the man she knew as Mohit Patel was actually Mohsin Pathan. More shockingly, he was already married and the father of three children.
When the victim confronted him with this information, the accused allegedly tried to intimidate and threaten her to prevent her from revealing the truth.
Police Action and Ongoing Investigation
Following the incident, the woman approached the Odhav Police Station in Ahmedabad and lodged a formal complaint. Based on her statement, police registered a case against Mohsin Pathan and swiftly arrested him.
Authorities are now investigating how the accused managed to create the fake Aadhaar card and whether he received help from someone else in preparing the forged document. Police are also examining whether he may have used the same method to target other women.
Officials say further details could emerge during the accused’s police remand and interrogation. The case has raised concerns in Ahmedabad about identity fraud and the misuse of fake documents to manipulate and exploit vulnerable individuals.
Police have assured that a thorough investigation is underway and that strict legal action will be taken if additional victims or accomplices are discovered.
