Rajkot 150ft Ring Road Accident: A serious road accident on Rajkot’s busy 150ft Ring Road created panic among commuters on Wednesday afternoon after a speeding luxury car allegedly driven by an intoxicated man rammed into several vehicles within a short distance. The incident, now widely discussed as the Rajkot 150ft Ring Road Accident, left at least five people injured and caused significant damage to vehicles and public property.
According to police officials and eyewitness accounts, the driver of the Volvo car has been identified as Dhaval Pipliya, the son of a local builder from Rajkot. Authorities are currently investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Multiple Vehicles Damaged in Busy Traffic Zone
The accident took place on one of Rajkot’s most crowded and fast-moving roads during peak daytime traffic hours. Witnesses said the Volvo was being driven at an extremely high speed, creating fear among motorists and pedestrians before the driver lost control.
Police said the vehicle allegedly struck multiple vehicles over a stretch of nearly 150 meters before finally coming to a halt after colliding near the roadside and damaging BRTS infrastructure.
The crash reportedly involved four cars and one motorcycle. The damaged vehicles included a Maruti Alto, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Aura, Mahindra XUV700, and a Honda motorcycle. Several vehicles suffered heavy front and side damage due to the impact.
Five people sustained injuries in the incident and were shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Officials stated that none of the injuries appeared immediately life-threatening, though some victims suffered serious trauma and shock.
CCTV Footage Captures the Incident
The shocking sequence of events was captured on CCTV cameras installed along the 150ft Ring Road. Videos circulating locally show the Volvo moving at high speed before crashing into vehicles one after another, causing chaos on the road.
The footage has become an important part of the ongoing investigation. Police are reviewing the recordings to determine the exact speed of the vehicle and reconstruct the timeline of the accident.
Road accidents involving reckless driving have become a growing concern in many urban areas of Gujarat, particularly on wide arterial roads where speeding is common. The latest Rajkot incident has once again raised questions about road safety enforcement and drunk driving regulations.
Angry Crowd Assaults Driver After Crash
Soon after the accident, a large crowd gathered at the scene. Eyewitnesses alleged that the driver appeared heavily intoxicated and was unable to properly respond after the collision.
Public anger escalated rapidly as injured victims lay on the road and damaged vehicles blocked traffic. Locals reportedly pulled the driver out of the car and assaulted him before police and emergency teams arrived at the spot.
The accused driver also suffered injuries in the altercation and was later shifted to Rajkot Civil Hospital through emergency medical services for treatment and medical examination.
Mob reactions after major road accidents are not uncommon in crowded Indian cities, especially when allegations of drunk driving emerge. However, police generally advise citizens to avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead allow legal authorities to handle such situations.
Police Begin Investigation Into Alleged Drunk Driving
Officials from Malaviya Nagar Police Station have launched a formal investigation into the case. Blood samples of the accused driver have been collected to determine whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicating substance.
Police sources said further legal action will depend on the medical and forensic reports. If intoxication is confirmed, additional charges related to negligent and dangerous driving could be added.
Authorities are also examining damage caused to public infrastructure, including the BRTS railing, which may lead to separate charges related to destruction of public property.
Investigators revealed that the accused was reportedly travelling from the Nanamava area toward a construction site when the accident occurred. The collisions began after his vehicle took a turn near Nanamava Circle and continued until the Balaji Hall Chowk area.
Growing Concerns Over Reckless Driving in Urban Areas
The Rajkot 150ft Ring Road Accident has once again highlighted concerns over reckless driving, speeding luxury vehicles, and alleged drunk driving on busy city roads. Residents have demanded stricter traffic enforcement, increased police patrolling, and stronger penalties for dangerous driving behavior.
Traffic experts often point out that wide urban roads can encourage overspeeding if monitoring systems are weak. Citizens are now calling for more surveillance cameras, stricter drunk-driving checks, and quicker legal action in such high-risk incidents.
Police officials have assured that appropriate legal steps will be taken once medical reports and technical evidence are reviewed.
