Ahmedabad Matrimonial Scam: A case that has raised serious concerns about online matrimonial platforms has come to light in Ahmedabad, where a man allegedly used a fake identity to befriend and deceive women searching for life partners. The accused, identified by police as Karim Rafikbhai Sipai, was arrested after a complaint revealed that he had allegedly posed as “Aditya Patel” on a matrimonial website and targeted widowed and divorced women.
The incident has sparked renewed discussions about the importance of identity verification on matrimonial platforms and the risks associated with online relationships.
Suspicion Raised After Caller Identification Mismatch
According to information related to the case, a widow from Ahmedabad came into contact with a man claiming to be Aditya Patel through a matrimonial website. The man reportedly introduced himself as a widower and presented himself as a successful businessman involved in the plastics industry. He also claimed to be well educated and shared what appeared to be official identity documents, including a PAN card, Aadhaar card, ration card, and driving licence bearing the name Aditya Patel.
The two remained in regular contact for nearly four to five months. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the woman received a phone call from him and noticed that a caller identification application displayed a different name. The discrepancy immediately raised doubts about his identity.
Determined to verify the information herself, the woman reportedly checked the address listed on the documents he had provided. Her inquiries revealed that no person named Aditya Patel lived at the stated location, deepening her suspicions.
Complaint Leads to Investigation
After realizing she may have been deceived, the woman sought assistance and shared details of the matter with local activists. Further inquiries reportedly revealed that the man was actually Karim Sipai, a resident of Kadi in Gujarat.
Investigators allege that despite being married, the accused presented himself online as a widower in order to gain the trust of women looking for marriage. Authorities believe he specifically focused on vulnerable individuals, including widows and divorcees, who were seeking companionship through matrimonial platforms.
A complaint was subsequently filed with the Ahmedabad Women’s Police Station, prompting law enforcement agencies to initiate an investigation.
Allegations of Forged Identification Documents
