Woman From Bhavnagar Allegedly Took the Extreme Step Months After Husband’s Death
A tragic incident linked to a Surat Suicide case has shocked both Surat and Bhavnagar after a 22-year-old woman reportedly ended her life by consuming poison while staying at a guest house in the city. The woman, who had travelled from Bhavnagar with her young daughter, was later declared dead during treatment at a local hospital.
According to preliminary information gathered by police and hospital authorities, the deceased had been struggling emotionally following the recent death of her husband. Investigators believe the loss may have played a significant role in the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Arrived in Surat With Her Daughter
The deceased has been identified as Reena Akshay Baraiya, a resident of Bhavnagar originally from the Vav-Tharad area. Police said she had travelled to Surat with her daughter, who is believed to be around one-and-a-half years old.
After reaching the city, Reena checked into a room at a guest facility associated with Umiya Dham Temple on Ashwini Kumar Road in the Varachha area. She was staying there with her child when the incident occurred on Tuesday morning.
Authorities said she allegedly consumed a poisonous substance inside the room. At the time, her young daughter was also present.
Phone Call Alerted Family Members
One of the most distressing aspects of the case is that the woman reportedly contacted her family shortly after consuming the substance. During the call, she informed relatives that she had taken poison.
Staff members at the guest house became aware of the situation and immediately rushed to assist her. Emergency medical services were contacted, and she was transported to SMIMER Hospital for urgent treatment.
Despite efforts by medical teams, doctors were unable to save her life, and she later died during treatment.
Marriage, Family Life and Personal Loss
Police inquiries revealed that Reena had married Akshay Baraiya in a love marriage approximately three years ago. The couple had been living in Bhavnagar and later welcomed a daughter into their family.
However, the family reportedly faced a major tragedy a few months ago when Akshay died after suffering from a serious illness. Relatives and investigators indicated that Reena had been deeply affected by her husband’s death and was finding it difficult to cope with the loss.
Officials have not released any final conclusion regarding the motive behind the incident. However, early findings suggest she may have been experiencing emotional distress and loneliness following her husband’s passing.
Investigation Underway
After receiving information about the incident, officers from the Ashwini Kumar Police Station reached both the hospital and the guest house to begin an investigation.
During the inquiry, police reportedly found contact details of one of Reena’s relatives in her mobile phone. After speaking with family members, officers were able to confirm her identity and gather additional information about her background.
Her body has been kept at the post-mortem facility of SMIMER Hospital while legal procedures are completed. Police said relatives from her late husband’s family were expected to travel from Bhavnagar to Surat to claim the body.
Authorities will also make arrangements regarding the care and custody of the young child, who survived the incident.
