Pralhad Joshi has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of India’s Ministry of Education following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The decision was approved by the President of India based on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. Along with his existing portfolios, Pralhad Joshi will now oversee the Education Ministry until further arrangements are made.

The move marks an important administrative change at the Centre, with Joshi expected to handle key decisions related to education while continuing to manage his current ministerial responsibilities.

Pralhad Joshi Takes Charge of the Education Ministry

Following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the central government announced that Pralhad Joshi would assume the additional charge of the Ministry of Education. The President formally approved the proposal, allowing him to oversee the ministry alongside his existing departments.

The Education Ministry is one of the country’s most significant ministries, responsible for school education, higher education, policy implementation, national education reforms, and several flagship educational programmes. With this additional responsibility, Joshi will now play a key role in shaping policies that impact millions of students, teachers, and educational institutions across India.

Current Ministries Handled by Pralhad Joshi

Before receiving the additional charge of the Education Ministry, Pralhad Joshi was already managing several important portfolios in the Union Cabinet.

He currently serves as the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, where he oversees matters related to food security, consumer protection, the Public Distribution System (PDS), and the nationwide ration distribution network. His ministry is responsible for ensuring the availability of essential commodities and implementing policies aimed at protecting consumer rights across the country.

These responsibilities place him at the centre of several key government welfare programmes that directly affect millions of Indian households.

Leading India’s Renewable Energy Initiatives

Apart from handling consumer affairs and food distribution, Pralhad Joshi is also associated with India’s renewable energy sector. The ministry focuses on expanding the country’s clean energy capacity through solar power, wind energy, green hydrogen, and other sustainable energy projects.

The government has been actively promoting renewable energy to meet India’s climate goals, and the ministry plays a crucial role in implementing these initiatives.

President of the International Solar Alliance (ISA)

Another significant responsibility held by Pralhad Joshi is his leadership role in the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

The ISA is a global organization jointly launched by India and France to promote the adoption of solar energy worldwide. The alliance works with member countries to increase access to affordable and sustainable solar power while encouraging international cooperation in clean energy development.

As President of the International Solar Alliance, Joshi contributes to strengthening global partnerships aimed at accelerating the transition towards renewable energy and reducing dependence on conventional fuel sources.
