Bridge Damage Disrupts Connectivity in Umargam Taluka
Valsad: Heavy rainfall continues to cause widespread disruption across southern Gujarat, with a section of a bridge connecting Sanjan and Humaran villages in Valsad district collapsing after water levels rose sharply. The incident, reported from Umargam taluka near Bhati Karmbeli, has affected local transportation and raised concerns about public safety as rivers continue to swell.
According to local reports, the bridge over the Varoli River suffered structural damage after intense water flow from upstream areas put enormous pressure on the structure. A portion of the bridge was washed away, leaving the route between the two villages inaccessible. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and assessing the extent of the damage.
Strong River Current Damages Bridge Structure
Continuous rainfall in upstream regions significantly increased the flow of water in the Varoli River. The force of the current weakened the bridge and eventually caused one section to collapse into the river.
Residents in the surrounding villages reported that water levels rose rapidly, making travel increasingly dangerous before the bridge gave way. Officials have urged people to avoid the affected area and use alternative routes until further notice. The damaged bridge is expected to remain closed while engineers inspect its condition and determine the necessary repairs.
