Gyaneshwari Yadav Delivers a Strong Performance
Competing against a highly competitive field, Gyaneshwari Yadav displayed remarkable composure throughout the event. She successfully lifted 85kg on her second attempt before improving her performance with an 88kg lift on her third attempt, a result that secured the silver medal.
Although Yadav delivered a strong performance, the gold medal went to her rival, who produced an outstanding series of lifts. After successfully lifting 90kg in the second attempt, she raised the bar further with 93kg in her final attempt, setting a new Commonwealth record and comfortably taking the top spot on the podium.
Despite missing out on gold, Yadav’s silver medal is another significant achievement in her career and reflects her steady rise in international weightlifting.
India’s Weightlifting Team Continues to Shine
India’s weightlifters have emerged as one of the country’s strongest medal prospects at the Glasgow Games. Gyaneshwari Yadav’s silver follows a string of impressive performances by her teammates.
Earlier, Mirabai Chanu won India’s first gold medal in weightlifting, reinforcing her reputation as one of the nation’s most accomplished lifters. Rishikant Singh and Raja Muthupandi also contributed to India’s success by winning silver medals in their respective categories.
India’s medal campaign had begun with Jhandu Kumar, who claimed the country’s opening medal in the men’s heavyweight para-powerlifting event after lifting 190kg, setting the tone for a strong overall performance by the Indian contingent.
With multiple podium finishes already secured, India’s weightlifting squad has played a key role in boosting the nation’s standing at the Commonwealth Games.
Pratistha Samanta Narrowly Misses a Gymnastics Medal
While India celebrated another success in weightlifting, there was disappointment in gymnastics as Pratistha Samanta narrowly missed out on a medal in the women’s vault final.
After qualifying for the final in seventh place, Samanta improved her performance in the medal round. She scored 12.700 on her first vault and 12.666 on her second, finishing with a combined average score of 12.683.
Her performance earned her sixth place overall, leaving her just short of a place on the podium. Although she was unable to secure a medal, reaching the final and delivering a consistent display highlighted her potential at the international level.
