A Fatal Crash Near Vijapur
On the night of July 8, 2026, at around 8:25 p.m., Vinodkumar Patel was riding his Activa scooter from Vijapur towards his native village, Anandpura. Patel, a well-known pharmacist who operated a medical store near Ram Mandir in Vijapur, was returning home after finishing work.
As he approached the area near Sagar Bungalows, close to Anandpura Crossroads, a speeding Maruti Brezza allegedly rammed his scooter from behind. The impact threw Patel onto the road, where he suffered severe head injuries.
Family members and local residents rushed him to the nearby civil hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The incident was initially treated as a fatal road accident, and after a post-mortem examination, his body was handed over to the family for the last rites.
At that point, nobody suspected that the collision might have been intentional.
Police Begin Investigating the Crash

Police Allege Murder Was Planned Weeks Earlier

According to police, Vimal Patel allegedly rented a Brezza from Rajasthan and removed its number plate to make identification difficult.
Authorities further allege that the victim’s movements were monitored for several days before the attack.
Police also claim that Rita and Shraddha transferred ₹50,000 to Vimal Patel during May and June as part of the alleged arrangement for carrying out the killing. Investigators are examining financial transactions connected to the case.
Another significant aspect of the investigation involves a ₹10 lakh accident insurance policy that had reportedly been taken out in Vinodkumar’s name approximately one month before his death.
Police are investigating whether the policy formed part of the alleged motive behind the crime.

The investigation took a dramatic turn after a witness voluntarily approached police.
According to investigators, the witness stated that on July 8 he and another friend had travelled in Vimal Patel’s Brezza after being told they were going to install CCTV cameras at a work site.
Instead, police say, the vehicle drove toward Anandpura.
The witness allegedly told investigators that he saw Vimal deliberately hit an Activa rider from behind before driving away despite objections from those inside the vehicle.
This testimony significantly strengthened the police case and prompted officers to detain Vimal Patel for questioning.
Confession and Arrests
Police say Vimal Patel eventually admitted that the collision had been planned and was not an accident.
Following his interrogation, investigators arrested Rita Patel and Shraddha Patel as alleged co-conspirators.
On July 17, police announced that they had solved the case and formally charged the accused in connection with the alleged murder conspiracy.
